Characterized by its subtle and open style of composition, 4 at 18 is the first disc in a series structured in part by time and symmetry.

4 at 18 is John's second release and shares the same minimal but discerning approach to composition that was so well received in his debut album, Immersion.

As a whole, 4 at 18 lends itself to a meditative, trance-like somnambulance that is at once mellow, rich and warm -- or perhaps, more like a warm ember slowly cooling.

The minimalist style of Immersion creates an ambient sonic atmosphere, blending unique synthetic textures, rich analog waves and digital samples. Individual tracks are unified by a concept of water -- immersed in a sonorous reverberation of introspection and exploration.

Immersion is sometimes deep and foreboding, yet balances the heavier tones with a brighter inflection - a blending that is all its own. The attention to the vertical structure of the music combined with its loose linear form, adds an organic quality to the entire music. John Broaddus shows a unique ability to sculpt sound and space.
